Family guy movie

October 3, 2007

For all of you secretly hoping that Stewie will finally succeed in his plans to take over the world (cue “Pinky and the Brain” music), you may now get your chance. It seems that plans for a Family Guy movie might, possibly, could potentially be happening. That’s right, it’s almost certain that it’s maybe going to happen!

According to various reports earlier in the year, including one from Reuters via Hollywood Reporter:

“We have been trying to figure out how to do that and the series at the same time without the series suffering,” he said about a potential “Family Guy” feature, adding that such a challenge also caused the delay in making a “Simpsons” film.

…One possible solution, according to MacFarlane [Seth MacFarlane, creator of “Family Guy”], would be to have Ricky Blitt, the creator of “Winner” [a short-lived Fox show also produced by MacFarlane] and a former writer for “Family Guy,” start on the movie script.

But he emphasized that he has no plot ideas yet, and that Fox studio executives would have to sign off on a film project as well.

However, according to a recent article in Canada’s National Post, Ricky Blitt, the writer mentioned by MacFarlane:

…spoke with the Post on Monday night about his progress on the screenplay for a movie version of Family Guy. While he wasn’t about to give away plot details, he did provide a broad-strokes sense of the movie.

The article continues:

MacFarlane and Blitt hold occasional meetings with the Fox studio to go over the script’s progress. The success of The Simpsons Movie (worldwide box office = a half-billion bucks) has made Fox “even more gung-ho” to make Family Guy into a film, Blitt observed.

Blitt enjoys holing up to write a screenplay, and likewise looks forward to bouncing his completed script off the Family Guy staff…

Hmm. I may be missing something, but that certainly sounds like a movie in the works to me. Perhaps, as the article notes, the success of The Simpsons Movie has kick-started the process? Perhaps… victory is ours? (you know it just had to be said at some point in this post)
